About Me

Hi! My name is Ada, and I'm a Senior Girl Scout! I'm a Freshman this year, and I'm 14 years old. I love to play volleyball, read, go to the movies with friends, hang out with my sister, write computer programs and build robots, and go on lots of cool adventures with Girl Scouts! I'm a starter on my school's Varsity Volleyball team this year, and I also love to play indoor club volleyball and beach volleyball in the summer! My favorite subjects in school are math, science, and computer science, and I compete in Science Olympiads and math competitions. I am learning Chinese, and I am in my second year as an apprentice learning programming skills after school and on the weekends. One of my favorite things to do is travel the U.S. with my family. We've driven to Boston, Texas, Florida, Colorado, Chicago, New York, Canada, and even Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon! I love learning new things, and I love life!

Why I advocate for online safety.

I feel that it's important for teens to advocate for online safety because the internet is an amazing thing! It is a useful and fun tool, and more and more kids are using it all the time. I think that teens can play a special role in helping other teens to use the internet safely. By teaching teens and their parents about dangers online, and how to deal with them, we can help teens to enjoy the internet safely and responsibly.

Q & A

  • What have you done online that you’re most proud of?
  • I am most proud of using internet resources to teach myself how to make my own websites and programs from scratch. I am also very proud to be a part of the Girl Scout Online Safety Program!
  • What types of things do you like to do to “Take 5” and step away from the computer?
  • Some things I like to do to “Take 5” and step away from the computer are to practice my blocking jumps for volleyball, go outside and practice hitting or serving a volleyball, or play foosball with my sister.
  • What have you done online that you’re most proud of?
  • I feel that my online friendships are not nearly as strong as my off-line ones. It is fun communicating online, particularly with people I know in person, but there really is a lot lost in translation when you use a computer to interact with people, and it doesn't replace seeing people in person for me.
