About Me

Hi, I’m Caley! I have a little brother, a little sister, and five guinea pigs. My hobbies include hanging out with friends, sarcasm, pets, reading, writing, and listening to my iPod. I’m a vegetarian and I care a lot about the environment. I have no clue yet what I want to be when I graduate…

Why I advocate for online safety.

It’s important for teens to care about online safety. Your mom can teach you to drive, your dad can teach you Stranger Danger; but kids today look at the Internet in totally new ways than previous generations. Most parents don’t understand how and why today’s kids use computers. This is where the teens come in! We understand the virtual world, but we’re old enough to use it responsibly and to teach others how to do so.

Q & A

  • What have you done online that you’re most proud of?
  • I’ve never given out my real name, address, phone number, etc. to people I don’t know, and I’ve always set my profiles to “private.”
  • What types of things do you like to do to take a break and step away from the computer?
  • Play with my guinea pigs, go for a jog, hang with my friends, or read a good book.
  • Are your online friendships different than your real-life friendships? How?
  • Virtual friendships and “real” friendships are totally different for me. With my friends, I’m completely comfortable giving out info like my phone number or address, or agreeing to meet them. I trust them. On the other hand, if I don’t know who I’m talking to, if it’s someone I met over the Internet, I stay anonymous, and don’t count that person among my real friends.
