Would You Fall for This?
So you think you're pretty web savvy, huh? Well, check out these "innocent" posts by teen girls -- and how a sexual predator can take advantage of them. You've probably written something like this yourself without thinking twice. Hopefully, after you read these, you'll start thinking a third time, and a fourth time, too...
YOU SAY: We all need to be more politically active. There are so many people who are sick and need medical care and can't afford it. Our politicians need to list more!
HE SAYS: I'm creating a group of teens dedicated to being more active in politics. Are you interesting?
OUR COMMENTARY: Ew! Smarmy!
YOU SAY: I'd freak if anything happened to my computer. Everything I care about in the world, including my favorite 25,000 songs and playlists, are on the hard drive.
SHE SAYS: I am contacting you from the ConMan Hacking Protection Company. We just learned that you have been infected with a very serious virus. You need to contact us right away to have it removed before it destroys your hard drive and data. This is being sent as a public service and no charges apply.
OUR COMMENTARY: Okay, so there's no such thing as the ConMan Hacking Protection Company. But you get our drift...
YOU SAY: I'd kill to get an invite to the opening part for Alicia Keys' new movie.
HE SAYS: We're always looking for loyal fans of Alicia Keyes and someone pointed us to your profile. We are creating a new ad campaign to promote the movie and will be inviting the teen who designs it to the opening party. Send me three of your ideas if you're interested. We'll have Alicia review the ones we live. Decisions will be made one month before the release and are final.
OUR COMMENTARY: See how he got you sucked in? If you believed this guy -- and responded to his email -- the Alicia Keys movie would end up being the furthest thing from your mind.
Get the drift? Keep on reading to learn more about how these predators operate!
