What Does the Law Say About Privacy?

Privacy is very important. Although our U.S. Constitution doesn’t mention it specifically, the U.S. Supreme Court has said that privacy is built into it, in lots of different areas and amendments.

We don’t like being under constant surveillance. We don’t like being spied on and like to be left alone sometimes (especially from our little brothers). We don’t want police to listen in on our telephone or e-mail conversations without a warrant.

We keep secrets (or try to).

The laws protect these interests. Wiretapping laws cover interception of telephone and online communications. And most states have laws that protect you from annoying intrusions and punish people for spying.
